This edition of Season Outlook focuses on a talented running back out of the SEC. T.J. Yeldon is the next in line to be the next great Alabama running back.
In recent years, the Crimson Tide have had some stellar running backs take the field. Running backs like Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, and Eddie Lacy have been absolute studs for Alabama.
Yeldon is the next one to have the backfield to himself. While being second in line behind Eddie Lacy in 2012, he still managed to rush for over 1,100 yards. He also managed to find the end zone 11 times. This may be hard to believe, but the 6-2, 220 lb. back may be the best all-around running back that Alabama has had.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Yeldon was a true freshman in 2012. That is a scary thing to think about if you are not a Alabama fan. This guy still has at least two more seasons running through SEC tacklers. If not for quarterback A.J. McCarron, Yeldon would be a preseason front runner for the Heisman Trophy. Not saying that McCarron will win it, but he will steal votes from Yeldon. With that said, Yeldon could be one of the top rushers in the country statistically in 2013. Look for him to eclipse the 1,400 yard mark and to post at least 14 touchdowns this season. He will share some carries with multiple backs in the Alabama backfield but Yeldon will be the main ball carrier for the Crimson Tide. For this reason, Yeldon won’t be one of the first five running backs taken but I see him being an early second round selection in your draft. He will be a very consistent back and if you have one of those early second round picks, he is a must draft. I know he isn’t in my top 10 but he very easily could have made it.
